I had to revisit this album and review it! I've been listening to this album for 12 years now and it still has the same impact it had on me when I first discovered it! I was 13 when this album came out and I was excited to hear the whole thing especially being a fan of Bridgit, Good Luck Charlie, and the debut single that came out a few months before. This album, appropriately titled Hello My Name Is, is a perfectly-packaged musical introduction to who Bridgit was and what her sound was at the time. With solid vocals, clever lyrics and amazing production, this album really stands on its own as a body of work! As the years went on I would find a new love in a different song until I could recite every song from heart. Once I learned about the deluxe version in 2015, I was beyond excited! The songs definitely expanded the narrative and was a great addition.
As a singer/songwriter, I am always pulled in when a song works from beginning to end. From lyrics to production to vocal performance, I am always blown away when an artist knows themselves well enough to deliver a concise and creative song that fits within their style and narrative. And y'all, Bridgit and her team did that with every. song.
Highlights (get ready because it's a long list). Some of my favorite songs here are:
- Ready of Not (incredible opener and great introduction)
- Forgot to Laugh (clever lyrics and catchy/creative composition)
- City Lights (inspiring message; amazing song construction and build up! this one right here is fire)
- All I See Is Gold (beautiful vocal performance and great storytelling in the lyrics)
- Love Will Tell Us Where to Go (I have been in love wit this song for so long, the storytelling and the sincerity and beauty within the lyrics always amazed me; the composition of the melody and production are so creative and addictive; Bridgit's vocals shine here especially on the pre-chorus)
- Blonde (this one definitely grew on me; clever and catchy pop song, and i thought the lyrics were funny)
- 5:15 (very much felt like a prequel to her Nemesis era, it reminds me of pop/R&B music, great lyrics, production, and vocal performance)
- We're Dancing: this is probably my most played song in the recent years! this song went triple platinum in my household! THE PRODUCTION ON THIS SONG. THE VOCALS ON THIS SONG. TOP TIER. It's just so unique to me. just makes me want to get up and dance (hence the title).
- Postcard (powerful song and message; it's so relevant in our modern day; great social commentary and it's definitely a point of view a lot of people need to hear)
I would definitely take a chance on this album if you haven't. Dr Mendler definitely made a hit record with this album and I'm so glad to have had this to listen to growing up. It has inspired me as a producer, songwriter and lyricist. I strongly recommend this if you're a fan of pop/r&b and even if you're not, give it a listen! Congrats to Bridgit with this one, it'll always be one of my favorite albums of all time.
